Frequently Asked Questions
What size excavator do I need to run a Fecon mulcher?
Match the cutter to your excavator's tonnage class and auxiliary hydraulic flow first, then verify
the carrier has adequate horsepower and counterweight. The FMX28 fits mini-excavators down to 3.5 tons,
the BH62EXC works on 12-20 ton hosts, and the BH200EXC is built for 20-45 ton class machines. We'll
spec the right combo for your machine and the material you're cutting.
FMX vs. CEM vs. Bull Hog (BH-EXC) β which Fecon excavator mulcher is right?
FMX is Fecon's compact fixed-tooth mulcher for mini and small excavators β lightest, most agile, ideal
for tight access and brush. CEM is a mid-range option for 8-15 ton carriers. The Bull Hog (BH-EXC)
series is the heavy-duty production line with a Variable-Speed drum rotor, made for daily land
clearing on 12-45 ton excavators.
Do I need a high-flow auxiliary, or is standard flow enough?
FMX28/36/50 and CEM36 run on standard auxiliary flow (12-40 GPM) β most factory-spec excavators in
their tonnage class are already plumbed correctly. The larger Bull Hogs (BH80EXC, BH200EXC) need
38-150 GPM and typically require a high-flow circuit option from the carrier OEM. Check the spec plate
on your machine or call us with your model number.
Carbide tools vs. fixed knives β which rotor configuration is right?
Carbide tools last significantly longer and are the preferred choice for mixed material, dirty
conditions, and stumps. Fixed knives leave a finer finish and cut faster in clean, soft wood, but
they wear quickly when they hit dirt or rocks. Most production land-clearing customers run carbide;
finish mulching crews often choose knives.
Can I rent a Fecon excavator mulcher before buying?
Yes. CECO rents Fecon mulcher attachments out of multiple branches. Use the Rental Request button at
the top of this page or visit the Fecon rental equipment page for current availability and rates.
Does CECO service Fecon excavator mulchers?
Yes β CECO is a factory-authorized Fecon dealer with trained service technicians and stocked OEM
parts. Whether you bought from CECO or not, the service team handles warranty work, rotor rebuilds,
tooth replacement, and field service on Fecon excavator mulchers.
